Senior Financial Planning and Analysis Manager

Summary

We are looking for an experienced, hands on Senior Financial Planning and Analysis Manager with strong project and business partnering experience. To be considered candidates should ideally have prior experience of the charity sector whether in industry or practice and must be qualified, and demonstrably meeting the requirements. 

This role will be based in our London office. This is a great opportunity for someone who has experience in a project driven organisation to help manage and improve the financial performance, direct our accounting and project operations and to own/manage the global annual budgeting and rolling forecast. You will have a can-do attitude and be able to take on a variety of tasks as well as big financial responsibilities for our entrepreneurial organisation.

With strong growth in the last few years, we are expanding the team to ensure the finance team can effectively support our organisation. We are in the next phase of automating and integrating our financial system between Financial Force Projects and Salesforce to enable strong decision making and project tracking.

About the role

The role will be part of the Operations team, reporting to the International Finance Director based in the UK, with a direct report.


The succesful candidate will lead the preparation, production and analysis of management information and to provide a high-quality support and analysis service to all projects and departments on a monthly basis and the annual budget and reforecasting cycles. 


The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical, excel and project planning, forecasting and accounting skills. S/he needs to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, be highly organized, and have excellent leadership and business partnering skills.

Key responsibilities:

  • Periodic financial updates for Executive Team, Finance & Audit Committee and Board of Trustees
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including the ability to summarise and present information effectively, writing clear reports, and designing effective outputs
  • Developing multi-year templates, both individual project and global consolidation models
  • Running the full process for project and departmental annual budgets and rolling forecasts, including scenario and cashflow modelling
  • Ensuring that monthly profiling of our project ledgers is up to date within FinancialForce to maintain fiscal diligence, as well as change control, aligning with budget and reforecasting models
  • Owning, developing and managing our Project/Grant Accounting and streamlining the process, as well as working with the wider organisation to fully adopt our project management processes
  • Lead business partnering meetings with projects and departments to ensure budgets are being met and project progress is evaluated from a financial perspective
  • Monthly detailed project reporting , including staff allocations and income recognition
  • Develop project reporting for various levels in the business, including narrative and KPI’s
  • Ensure that our organisation’s financial practices are in line  with statutory regulations and legislation
  • Interpret financial information and provide information to enable strategic decision making
  • Update financial policies and procedures as needed to improve internal controls and compliance
  • Manage financial training material and dissemination into the organisation
  • Assisting with the annual global and country audits
  • As an entrepreneurial Charity the ideal person will need to be willing to adopt a flexible approach to the role responsibilities
  • Work with the organisation to improve commercial knowledge to mitigate risk in bids

 

About you

Essential:

  • Qualified Accountant with recognised global body
  • Substantial experience operating at Senior FP&A or equivalent level
  • Background working in a Charity or Commercial Project Environment
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and personally completing detailed global budgets and forecasts for a project-based organisation
  • Business Partnering with project teams and senior staff, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrable leadership and management skills, including coaching & mentoring of staff
  • Understanding of data privacy standards
  • Skilled in Salesforce/FinancialForce (FFA/PSA) or similar complex project and accounting system, including report building
  • Advanced Excel skills including modelling of consolidated global budgets building up from detailed project and department plans and dexterity to manage a large amount of data
  • Working in a multi-currency accounting environment
  • Broad and up to date knowledge of accounting standards and principles
  • Commercial Awareness of project/grant bids and managing third party risks


Desirable:

  • Experience of Charity Grant Accounting/Charity SORP (FRS102).
  • Experience working with US/EU/Indian/China organisations and respective taxes and regulations
  • Indirect Tax knowledge, including VAT/GST and impacts for a Charity

 

Location

You will be based in our London head office. At present all staff are being supported to work from home in the current global environment and we vacated our existing London office in May 2020 and are currently seeking to find a new office in Zone 1. This role is ultimately an office-based role once working conditions return to a new normal, although some working from home may continue in line with the organisation’s flexible working policy.  Infrequent national/international travel may be required.

 

Terms & Conditions

This is a full-time fixed term contract for 18 months with potential to extend or become permanent.  The salary for this position will be £47,000 to £54,000 per annum based on experience. In addition to the salary, the role holder will benefit from:
