Senior Manager COP26 EV Campaign

Summary

This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to drive a global campaign to promote leadership for electro-mobility in the run up to the international climate negotiations (COP26) in November 2021.

Decarbonizing the transport system is essential for resolving the climate challenge, and electro-mobility is rapidly expanding as one of the key solutions. This potential is recognized by the British government, which holds the Presidency of the upcoming climate negotiations, and has pledged to make electro-mobility a priority within its agenda.

In this context, the Climate Group will run a global campaign over the coming year leading up to COP26 - to inspire and promote EV leadership from forward-looking businesses and sub-national governments, and bring their voices together to drive stronger policy ambition from national governments.

This campaign will build on and amplify the Climate Group’s existing portfolio of electro-mobility work, especially its international corporate leadership initiative EV100 and the sub-national government platform ZEV Community as part of the Under 2 Coalition. It will be developed in close coordination with the UK COP26 Presidency and the High-Level Champions’ team, as well as a broad range of related stakeholders and partners.

About the Climate Group

The Climate Group drives climate action. Fast. Our goal is a world of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with greater prosperity for all.

We focus on systems with the highest emissions and where our networks have the greatest opportunity to drive change. We do this by building large and influential networks and holding organisations accountable, turning their commitments into action. We share what we achieve together to show more organisations what they could do.

We are an international non-profit organisation, founded in 2004, with offices in London, New Delhi and New York. We are proud to be part of the We Mean Business coalition.

About the role

Electro-mobility is a crucial climate solution, and an important pillar of the Climate Group’s work, demonstrated amongst others by EV100, our international corporate leadership initiative on electric vehicles, and the ZEV Community, a collaborative best practice sharing platform on EV policy for state and city-level governments that we run together with ICCT and other partners.

The UK government, which is also an international ambassador for our EV100 initiative, is making clean transport one of the five priorities of its COP26 Presidency. This offers a major opportunity to raise awareness for the climate potential of electric vehicles (EVs) and accelerate their uptake around the world.

In this context, the Climate Group has secured funding to run a major EV campaign over the year running up to COP26, which will profile and expand the leadership generated through EV100, the ZEV Community, the Under 2 Coalition, and other partners, secure further ambition from businesses and state governments, as well as leverage their voices to push for strong EV policies from national governments and increased EV production from manufacturers.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager to drive the development and implementation of this campaign in close collaboration with a small team of direct reports and dotted line collaborators. The role will be based within in our business action team and report to the Head of EV100, working closely with colleagues focused on the transport system across the Climate Group.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conceptual development and implementation of a global EV campaign in the run up to COP26, leveraging and expanding on the Climate Group’s existing EV work such as EV100 and the ZEV community
  • Coordination of an ongoing campaign work team including direct reports as well as dotted line collaborators across the Climate Group’s transport systems team (business engagement, States & Regions, comms, regional offices)
  • Close collaboration with the UK Government COP26 Presidency Team as well as the UNFCCC High-Level Action Champions’ team to align our respective campaigning aims and activities
  • Building and maintaining ongoing relationships with a broad range of other relevant stakeholders and partners such as We Mean Business, partners within the ZEV Community, Zero Emission Freight Vehicle ACTion Group
  • Developing and managing a number of formal implementation partnerships (e.g. technical and/or outreach partners) or contractors
