Communications Assistant (FTC)

About the role

This is an opportunity to join a leading international not-for-profit focused on accelerating global climate action in our London HQ.  

We are looking for a talented and ambitious person to join our growing team for a fixed term 5 month contract, to help deliver our international communications plans, focused on promoting our work on renewables, electric vehicles, government climate action and international summits.

Specifically, you will play a critical role in supporting the communications for our flagship international summit, Climate Week NYC. Annually, the event provides the time and place for the world to showcase amazing climate action and discuss how to do more. You will assist our integrated team in driving and implementing our social media and media outreach. You will also support our work with high profile partners and sponsors, to help build our relationships and overall profile for the event. 

For the first two months in the role, you will also support our work in delivering the communications plans for the Under2 Coalition of global states and regions (40% of your time), for which The Climate Group is Secretariat. The coalition is made up of more than 200 governments who represent over 1.3 billion people and 43% of the global economy.

With a passion for storytelling, you will help to significantly progress our approach on content and outreach on social media to lift our international profile, engagement, brand and influence. This wide-ranging role will sit within the Corporate Communications section of the team, which covers media, content, design, digital and social media for The Climate Group. The opportunity would suit someone looking to kick start their career in a fast-paced, integrated communications team.

Key areas of focus will include

  • Supporting teams to deliver high quality content (e.g. briefings, case studies, reports, video, blogs, news, tweets etc) for The Climate Group, often by taking the lead on these
  • Leading on our social media output in line with our newly produced social media strategy 
  • Play a key support role to the team (planning agendas, writing-up actions and driving those forward)
  • Driving forward critical projects for the team wherever required
  • Working flexible hours when required to support events and announcements across international time zones 

About you

As an adaptable self-starter, you will have the ability to execute agreed actions to a high level. You will be proactive in all you do and seek feedback from colleagues to ensure continuous improvement in everything you work on. You will be eager to learn and will thrive in a fast-paced and evolving landscape.


  • A passion for communications, with a degree/professional qualification in marketing/communications, or equivalent experience
  • Strong work ethic with ability to work well under pressure and unsupervised
  • Strong command of the English language with a flair for copywriting
  • Confidence when dealing with all manner of telephone and email enquiries
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi-task under deadline
  • Excellent interpersonal skills


  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign/Photoshop would be an asset
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Suite (editing)



You will be based in our London head office, in County Hall, which is a five-minute walk from Waterloo station. 

Terms and conditions

This is a full-time fixed term position starting from May/June till the end of September 2019. The successful candidate will receive remuneration in line with the London Living Wage.
