Project Officer – Energy Transitions (India)

About the role 

The Climate group is seeking a talented individual with strong knowledge of the operating policy and regulatory landscape of India’s clean energy system. The post-holder will work on our energy transition initiatives, which aim to accelerate corporate demand of electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy (RE), and mainstream energy productivity within businesses. She/he will deliver on India-specific strategies working closely with partners, government and donors.  

The position is based in our New Delhi office, and will report to Senior Manager - Energy Transitions (India). This role is suited for those who have experience in policy research, are up-to-date with the clean energy space, have the desire to influence climate actions through business and governments, and have managed day-to-day project activities. 

While, the post-holder will work across our corporate initiatives, her/his main focus area will be to drive electric mobility project(s) in India team. Additionally, she/he will support the teams in maintaining corporate connections, doing programmatic research and strategy, delivering project outputs, reporting, fundraising and supporting communications.

About the Project 

The Climate Group aims to drive the next shift towards India’s clean energy transition by building ambitious programs of coalitions and networks of action. One such transition is the shift to electric mobility with significant potential of curtailing emissions, and in supporting the imperatives of temperatures well below 1.5°C. A departure from conventional fossilized-internal combustion engines will help India to address critical present-day challenges of making cities cleaner, congestion-free, lowering dependence on fuel imports and creating jobs. 

We are embarking on an exciting project that aims to elevate electric mobility in India by leveraging the opportunity with Indian business to take lead on EV adoption, and consequently supporting growth and large-scale uptake. The project will work with businesses across industries to foster their ambition through the EV100 platform, and drive action by addressing mobility challenges, implementing scalable business models, publicizing best practices, and informing policy. 


Key Responsibilities

You will report to Senior Manager – Energy Transitions (India) and the role will include but not be limited to: 

Project Management Support 

  • Develop and implement the electric mobility project (described above), and all allied workstreams related to EV100. Some key deliverables that the post-holder will be responsible to deliver on during the two-year project are:   

                  Business cases for 100% transition of industry segments to EV fleet 

                  Roadmaps for EV100 companies for meeting their 2030 goals 

                  Proof-of-concept pilots and operating frameworks for implementation 

                  Myth-buster briefings and policy recommendations 

  • Prepare technical reports, funder reports, and contribute to articles, blogs etc. 
  • Manage subcontractors and other partners’ compliance with donor requirements, quality of work and milestones adhering to the agreed budget and scheduling. 
  • Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and deliverables, and of sub-contracts and ensure that services are delivered to specification. 
  • Provide policy and technical support to business engagement activities on RE100 and EP100 in India. 
  • Prepare annual operational plans with goals, strategies, initiatives and budgets.  
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders such as global functional teams including programs, communications, fundraising and finance, as may be needed under the project.  
  • Maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders such as India-based partners including business associations, civil society, NGOs, think tanks and others.  

Fundraising and Finance 

  • Contribute to fundraising efforts through content/ concept notes and partner engagements, on subjects and initiatives as identified by the manager. 
  • Develop funder and grantee contracts, and ensure compliance with contracting norms. 
  • Support in financial reporting and budget forecasting related to areas of responsibility, and ensure regular and timely payment against deliverables, and that of contractors.  
  • Monitor and ensure funder requirements are fully complied with, proactively identifying potential problems and solutions to these. 

Communications and Events 

  • Support the delivery of project meetings, and workshops/ conferences  
  • Work closely with India and global comms to ensure that TCG communications and events align and support the aims of the project and the team’s mission. 
  • Provide support in ensuring effective external communication of the programs and its impacts through articles, blogs, twitter feeds etc. with support from India and global communications teams. 
  • Support in representing the organization when required to external stakeholders in conference calls and conferences  


About you


  • Experience of working on EV, RE and energy efficiency projects in India, and exposure to global policies and regulatory frameworks preferable. 
  • Relevant professional qualification preferably a Master’s degree.
  • Experience of working with reputed Indian corporations and businesses, and engagement with their management for example C-suite.
  • A track record in project delivery, including managing partners. 
  • Demonstrable experience in managing workshops, writing reports, policy briefs etc.  
  • Strong people management and negotiation skills. 
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills. 
  • Fluent written and spoken English. 
  • Basic financial skills, including managing and reporting budgets.
  • Competent user of MS office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to multi-task in small team, manage conflicting priorities and be a strong team player under pressure.
  • Undertake other programmatic tasks as and when required.  
  • Roll-up-your-sleeves attitude - proactively learn and take on roles.  


  • Experience of working with mission-led and impact-driven organizations.  
  • Exposure to fundraising/ proposal writing and donor interaction   
  • Existing working relationships in the EV, RE and energy efficiency space with Central and State Government agencies, research organizations, civil society, NGOs etc. 
  • Understanding of sustainability, global development issues and the climate change agenda 
  • Knowledge of project management software like Salesforce/ FinancialForce   


You will be based in our New Delhi office, with reasonable travel within India.

Terms and Conditions

This is a fixed term full time contract for up to 12 months, based in New Delhi (India). We offer a competitive salary based on experience.
